Pictures for the children's room

Exciting and unique pictures of animals!

How about a close-up, a portrait of an animal you're particularly fond of, or one that has special meaning to you – or to the person who will receive the gift? They're perfect for children, and also look great on the wall in a living room.

In 1993 I was working on my master's degree in illustration at the Bergen School of Arts and Crafts. Earlier in my studies I had made a calendar with watercolor pictures of animals. This calendar led me to contact the World Wildlife Foundation (WWF). The plan was to develop a series of animal portraits that they could use in their work.

I wanted to capture the animals' unique personalities and expressions. To achieve this, I had to study them closely. I made a series of sketches from zoos, videos and books of animal photographs. How could I bring out the distinctive personality of each animal? After trying out different techniques, I ended up simplifying and stylizing the expressions by creating them in collage.

An old marbling technique made it possible to decorate the paper with desired colors. After careful planning, I cut and glued the motifs together piece by piece.

The result was both simple and more complex motifs – but all beautiful! For various reasons, they were never used by WWF. Some of the images have been for sale in Dyreparken in Kristiansand, but otherwise this is the only place you can get them! 🙂 https://grorykkelid.no/product-category/dyr
